The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that tobacco will be responsible for the deaths of nearly 6 million people this year. This estimate includes 600,000 nonsmokers, and is expected to rise to approximately 8 million people by 2030 if action is not taken by governments world-wide to reduce smoking rates and secondhand exposure to smoke.
