U.S. Navy Bans Smoking on Submarines

February
2011

Due to the dangers of second hand smoke, the U.S. Navy officially banned smoking in the confines of submarines on January 1st. Approximately 30-50% of the 132 enlisted submariners on one vessel--the USS Charlotte--were smokers prior to the ban, though some credit the ban with motivating them to quit for good.
