Maryland Tobacco News > State-wide Ban on Smoking in University System of Maryland Institutions Begins in 2013Tags:
A policy approved by the Board of Regents of the University System of Maryland institutions bans smoking on all associated campuses. The ban, effective June 30, 2013, will affect all of the 12 universities within the University System of Maryland Institutions and will put limitations on the acceptable areas in which smoking will be permitted on campuses across the state. Officials cite the associated health risks as the primary reason for the ban and have yet to determine the means of enforcement for the policy when it is implemented next year.
