Expansion of Existing Smoking Ban in Maryland City
November, 2010
In an effort to prevent second-hand smoke, City Council members in Greenbelt, Maryland unanimously voted to expand the city's existing smoking ban to prohibit smoking within 25-feet of entrances to all city recreation facilities and non-enclosed play areas such as public parks. Violators will receive a fine of $50 (for first-time offenses), $100 (for a second offense), and $250 (for any subsequent violations). However, concerns have been raised regarding enforcement of the expanded ban.
