Heart disease inflammation decreases with quitting smoking -- August 24, 2009
A recent study found that two markers of inflammation associated with heart disease, C-reactive proteing (CRP) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) declined among 36 women who had recently quit smoking.These findings suggest that there may be quantitative ways to describe the benefits to the heart of quitting smoking. Women of lower socioeconomic status face unique challenges -- August 17, 2009
A supplement to the August issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine includes research that found that women of lower socioeconomic status face unique challenges as a consequence of smoke-free policies, including additional stigma and a need for greater childcare resources. Smokers more stressed than non-smokers -- August 17, 2009
A recent study asked smokers and non-smokers to report how often they experience stress. Half (50%) of the smokers reported "frequent" experiences of stress, whereas only 35% of non-smokers reported "frequent" stress. Read more here.
